I want to know what is the correct way to write the numbers between the 'hundreds' and specifically from 300-900 i.e. 301-399 / 401-499 etc. Dars 24 (i.e. the one which deals only with numbers but in detail) doesn't make this clear.
From the below which (if any) is correct:
For example if I want to say 529 male students...which of the following is correct:

wa 'alaykumus salaam wa raHmatullaah wa barakaatuhu
Your first answer is correct, i.e.
‘ 529 male students ’ is constructed:
Constructing the numbers that range from 321-999, is actually very easy.
In the range 300-900, if we start with a number with tens and units added, and take the mu’rab numbers not mabniyy, then the first number in this range is: 321. We will look at this type here.
Constructing the tens and units for numbers in the range 321-999, follows the same pattern for constructing the tens and units for a number like e.g.
125.
For example:
Please notice the blue coloured words in the following sentences which reflect a common pattern in forming numbers:
125 male students passed =
147 male students passed =
We would now follow the pattern (in blue) for writing the tens and units in, e.g. :
529 male students passed :
693 male students passed :
999 male students passed :
So our Shaykh has given the principles governing numbers in the Key, and followed that with copious examples of numbers in the main lesson - which - when practised sufficiently - reveal some obvious patterns.
(You have done well to get it right first time, maa shaa?allaah.)
Additional Benefit:
Regarding the numbers reaching thousands, then Shaykh Abdur Rahim informed me that it is permissible to construct these numbers, starting from the largest number first – the thousands, and not starting from the smallest number first – the units.
But the Shaykh said it is better to start with the units and to follow the order mentioned in the Key to lesson 24.
i.e. So to construct a number like :
6543
- it is better to start with the units, then go to the tens, then hundreds, then thousands (and not the opposite order).
The Shaykh gave a further example for a number in this range:
1635 students study at the school.

The respected Shaykh confirmed that this reply I have just provided you, is correct.
Hope you find it helpful - in shaa Allaah.

I have one last question in shaa Allaah...just as a means to enhance my understanding in shaa Allaah. Is the below sentence correct?
I am trying to say: "I have 999,999 riyal"

Assalaamu 'alaikum Brother Abu Maryam,
Our Shaykh Abdur Rahim (may Allaah preserve him) confirmed your construction above is correct, i.e:
‘I have 999, 999 riyaals’ :
The Shaykh mentioned two other ways of expressing this:
'indii alfu alfi riyaalin ?illaa riyalan
Or,
'indii malyuun-u riyaalin ?illaa riyaalan
(I have one million riyaals except one)
This is now being placed as a 'sticky' for everyone to benefit from it in shaa Allaah.
Wassalaamu 'alaikum
