Lesson 12
excercise 2 - change the pronoun in the following sentence to feminine
question 3
أ هذا الدفتر لكَ يا عليّ ؟

Yes indeed, you are talking to a feminine, but the "notebook" (الدفتر ) is not the person you are talking to. So why would like to make it feminine ?
The point given in the instruction of the exercice is that you have to turn into feminine the elements in the sentence "that can
be" turn into feminine.
In question 3 above, the word الدفتر, can't be feminine. It is a noun that is naturally masculine by its form, as for باب (a door) which is masculine, you can't swich it into feminine and make it بابة, or like for سيارة which is feminine by nature, you can't swich it into masculine and make it سيار. Got it ?
These words are like human beings, you can't change their gender: either your a man or a woman. So, these words have their own set of attributes, and among these attribues is whether they are masculine of feminine.
So, it would be more correct to say instead: أ هذا الدفتر لكِ يا فاطمة ؟.
Here you are refering to an object which is masculine by nature, and
given that you're now talking to a woman, you just have to adapt
the sentence to your interlocutor, who is now a woman. The notebook
still remain the same.
In:
whereas in question 6
أأنت مريض يا خالي ؟
The answer is
أأنتِ مريضة يا خالتي ؟
The pronoun got changed to feminine and khabar got changed to feminie too
Indeed, since you are addressing to a women you have to adapt
the khabar مريض into مريضة as you correcly did and خالي into خالتي .
I'm afraid I was not very clear. If not please tell me.
Salâmou'aleikoum wa rahmatoullâh wa barakâtouh.

or could we say these?
In question 3 the الدفتر is not describing the person in question, thus it is not effected by the person gender
In question 6 مريض needs to be change to مريضة because it describing the person and the person is changed from masculine to feminine
